What we publish
We tell stories about the people who create, the designers who shape spaces, and the traditions, places, and ideas behind the things we value.
Most of what we publish is long-form: profiles of artists and artisans, conversations with designers, and stories about materials, places, and practices. We name the people we photograph and the people who photograph them.

Stories are reported and written by the JOURNAL, not submitted by the people they feature. Editorial coverage is separate from commercial activity.

The JOURNAL is our editorial space — a place to explore the people, practices, and ideas behind Japanese art, craftsmanship, culture, and design, while connecting those stories with a wider world.
